Indoor Track gives LVER an Early start to Season
The Las Vegas Elite Runners started the track season early at the 28th Annual Arizona Classic at Northern Arizona University (NAU) in Flagstaff, Arizona, which offers beautiful forest scenery and wildlife that is refreshing. For those that love nature, it was the ideal getaway to relax and enjoy indoor track and field.
While snow filled the skies and covered the ground outside, the Sky Dome provided the perfect environment for running that included over 300 heats of races. For Jordan Gowdy and Lashari Patterson-Davis, it meant a first time visit to the massive NAU Sky Dome and running at over 7,000 feet of altitude.
Both Jordan and Lashari ran the 55 meters and 200 meters races, where both were great! They were so wound up! When asked if they were nervous, they surprisingly replied, “No, we’re just excited and ready to run now!” At one point, I saw Jordan doing jumping jacks and stretching drills on the floor that I’d never witnessed before. Someone said he was bored, which was understandable as the wait at the check-in area was long due to the many heats.
That boredom and energy manifested itself in PR’s for both Lashari and Jordan, where they ran 8.73 and 8.99 respectively for the 55M and 33.73 and 32.89 in the 200M. It was a great start to the track season for them and a treat when both our athlete’s and parent’s have an enjoyable experience at meets.
